Joey Yung says 'no' to pre-nups
HONG KONG: Hong Kong singer-actress Joey Yung declared Wednesday during a promotional event, that she would never sign a pre-nuptial agreement before marriage, reported Hong Kong media.
Despite hearing about the marital troubles Hong Kong celebrity couple Nicholas Tse and his wife Cecilia Cheung have been experiencing, Yung still believed in marriage and would not engage in a pre-nuptial agreement to protect her financial assets.
"This (getting a pre-nup) would be very meaningless.
"I feel my traditional [values] and upbringing make me feel less strongly about money and believe that I as well as the other party (her future husband), would put in effort [to stay together] till old age," said Yung.
However, that's not something Yung would have to worry about any time soon.
The Cantopop singer, who turned 31 this month, said that growing up in a single parent family prevented her from having a role model to learn from.
She expressed that this kept her from having a complete understanding of love, so she preferred to marry later when she is ready.
"Many women would think about having a family when they are young, but I only recently got that idea (of settling down) so I think I'm suited for late marriage, the later the better."
Yung's parents separated when she was just 15. She and her younger brother have been living with their mother since the divorce.
Yung is not the only Asian celebrity to have given pre-nuptial agreements a miss.
Taiwan television host Dee Hsu and Singapore singer Stefanie Sun, who married long-time boyfriend Nadim van der Ros in May, have also said 'no' to pre-nups.
